2002-2003

The third season is one that until today remains the fondest in the minds of the Giants fans. It marked their first playoff championship win and their adventures into Europe in the Continental Cup. On the other hand though, it was no bed of roses. Many teams were struggling financially and teams like Ayr and Manchester dropped out leaving the league with just five teams to complete the season. It wasn’t perfect but the Giants made the most of it finishing second in the league and then dominating a playoffs that lasted almost half the length of the regular season. In November they had hosted and qualified from the Continental cup semi-finals into the finals round held in Lugano, Switzerland. With a chartered jet put on, hundreds upon hundreds of fans travelled over for a weekend of parties and hockey as the Giants finished 6th in the 8 team tournament. Going into the summer however the good feelings of such a successful season turned sour as rumours of the team folding due to serious financial trouble fear into the fans. They overcame the problems and would indeed play the following year.
