Schedule | Statistics | Standings
2000-2001 was the inagural season of the Belfast Giants. With new coach Dave Whistle and his band of new players. The first half of the season was played on the road while the new Odyssey arena was built. It was finally opened on 2nd December and hosted the teams first game against Ayr. They lost the game but won the second game in the arena in a classic encounter against Bracknell. The Giants form picked up dramatically in the second half of the season in front of sell-out crowds of 7000+. The upturn in form was not enough to challenge for the league title but they did get all the way to the challenge cup semi-final were they eventually lost to grand-slam winners Sheffield.
