Theo is a legend in the world of hockey never mind in Giants hockey. An NHL superstar he has won a Stanley Cup as well as an Olympic Gold Medal for Canada. Although his career has been dampened by personal problems he was able to put that aside when he came to Belfast to break free from the pressures of North America and join his hockey. The fans took to him immediately when he scored a hat-trick and seven points in his first game against Edinburgh. He dominated the league for the rest of the season, walking his way to the scoring title as well as taking the team to a league championship. Although he didn’t win a playoff crown, Theo left with good memories of Belfast and the fans were left with lifelong memories of Theo. He may have only played one season in Belfast but he goes down as one of the most popular and best players the Giants have ever had. A true character, a world class talent and a great player.
After leaving the Giants Theo retired from hockey, returning to Canada to set up his own concrete business though came out of retirement briefly at the beginning of the 2009/10 season to make a run at the Calgary Flames team in the NHL. He scored a couple of goals in pre-season including a shootout winner, but was not signed onto the team for the regular season and officially announced his retirement in October 2010. He released his hard hitting, best selling, autobiography later that month to critical acclaim.
