Jason Ruff will go down as the greatest player ever to pull on a Giants jersey. Sure the Giants had the world class talent of Theo Fleury for one special season, but Jason Ruff who retired in the summer of 2007 from the Giants retired with more goals, assists and points than anyone else to have played for the Giants. He was never one for sticking around in back to back seasons. Growing up playing at the highest level of the minor-pro circuit including spells in the NHL (were if you believe what you read he probably deserved a longer shot at the top) he arrived in Belfast in 01-02 and played on one of our best ever lines along with Berens and Riehl helping the team win their first league title before leaving for Germany. By 03-04 and the Giants coming off the back of serious financial problems and joining the new Elite League he was back for more were he dominated the league with 94 points in all in what was probably the most complete season by a Giants player ever. Again he left and returned again in 05-06 to play alongside Fleury. He played half that year before returning to Canada but was back in Belfast for 06-07 were, although slowing down, played a stellar year putting up 67 points in 56 regular season games. He signed on for the 07-08 season but decided in the end to call it a day on a great career.
After leaving the Giants for the final time Jason Ruff retired back to Canada to start his own business.
