Todd Kelman, GM of the Giants, has spoke for the first time since news broke this weekend of an indictment from the United States out against team enforcer Sean McMorrow for trafficking drugs across the Canadian/US border between 2005 and not surprisingly the Giants are backing their player.
“We’re backing him 100 per cent until we find out otherwise,” said Kelman, who had yet to speak directly to McMorrow as of Sunday afternoon.
“He’s innocent until proven guilty in my eyes, and until I hear differently then I’ll back Sean. I know him well enough to know he’s an outstanding guy and has been great for us in the community.
“He’s been an outstanding individual and a great part of the team. I’m sure it’s been a shock to him as well, it came out of nowhere from our end.”

I’m glad to hear this and I hope McMorrow is able to clear his name sooner than later and get back to playing though at this late stage in the season, who knows if he’ll make it back in time for the playoffs or not?
Whether McMorrow has flown back to the States already or whether he is in communication with his lawyer from Northern Ireland is not known though Kelman did seem to hit that McMorrow was talking to his lawyer from Belfast.

In an interview with SkySports.com Todd Kelman has talked about the year that Theo Fleury came to play in Belfast, how he acted like an obcessed fan rather than a regular team-mate and how Theo would tell them all stories and get them going in games. This is the first part in a two part interview and is well worth the read.

If the PR people had their way the paying public going to the Giants v Vipers game this weekend can expect an all out war to ensue followed by the suits that fill the corridors of power at Elite League towers running onto the ice throwing out suspensions like rice at a wedding. According to the Giants website, Todd Kelman has requested a league presence at the game with the belief that the Vipers will do everything in their power to goon it up on the Giants players. Have we forgot about our newest signing?

Signings | Friday 16 January 2009 by Richard Blayney
While Manchester City rock the footballing world by closing in on the signing of Kaka, the Belfast Giants have shook the hockey world by signing one Jason Rushton. The headline on the Giants official website proclaimed that the Giants had signed a ‘Showman’. Within hours of the announcement the message board on KotG was crammed with posts coming in so fast that the reading eye could hardly keep up. Oh, nothing raises the debating juices quite like a new signing — especially when he comes to play with his fists. Read More»
