Sean McMorrow is set to drop his gloves…

Elite League 2009/10 | Friday 20 November 2009 by

Sean McMorrow is set to drop his gloves for the Giants cause again tonight and is making sure everyone is aware of it in the media prior to the Giants double header with Nottingham this weekend. In a potential battle to see who leads the Elite League after the weekend the two teams will do battle with the puck and it seems with their fists.

McMorrow’s latest challenge is to Panthers newboy, Mario Larocque who comes with a tough reputation but one which McMorrow wants to put to the test. He feels Larocque would be doing his team-mate Bergin a favor by stepping up as McMorrow has fought and beat him twice this year.

A blood bath predicted and scores to be settled

Game Blogs 2008/09 | Sunday 22 February 2009 by

Jason Rushton will have to be on the top of his game tonight as the Giants travel into Newcastle to play the Vipers for the first time since the double header in the Odyssey last month when fights broke out all over the place. The Vipers were furious the way things went down, never mind the fact they lost both games. They have promised pay back and have promoted the game as the Giants circus coming to town. The odds on Rushton and Payette fighting again are tiny and the chances of their being more fights than goals are good as well.

I don’t mind. So long as the Giants come home with the two points and without injuries then I am all for us beating them up along the way. It is going to be entertaining but unfortunately I am not going to be able to watch it. Oh well, I am sure the fight videos will surface sometime after the game.

Midweek game at the ‘O’

Game Blogs 2008/09 | Tuesday 17 February 2009 by

I always quite liked midweek games at the Odyssey. A lot of people didn’t because it meant a smaller crowd but I always enjoyed sitting in work knowing I had a game that evening to look forward too. You could stay up in town after work, go to the bar for a few drinks and be in a great mood come 7.30 p.m. and face off time.

I hate midweek games now. I’m stuck in work because of the time difference and I can’t even watch the games online. So on that note there will be no preview, just the information that the Giants play Manchester tonight, that Rushton will almost certainly fight Clouthier and that face off is from 7.30 p.m.

Expect a high scoring end-to-end game tonight

Game Blogs 2008/09 | Friday 13 February 2009 by

The Giants are back in action tonight at home. Friday 13th, a day that some class as unlucky. If you believe that gibberishand especially if you are a goalie and even more especially if you happen to be playing in the Odyssey Arena come 7.30 p.m. tonight then you might want to look away now. Because if previous results are anything to go by between the Giants and Panthers this season then both tenders could be in for unlucky nights.

This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season with two more to follow after this evenings encounter. The Giants have won two of the three but been outscored by the Panthers 16-13. That is 29 goals in total in just three games. It should make for a fun game tonight if that pattern repeats.

The big Edinburgh weekend

Game Blogs 2008/09 | Saturday 20 December 2008 by

Seen by some as a ‘warm-up’ to the playoffs weekend. Not in any hockey sense but in the sense of a few hundred Giants fans hitting one city for a long weekend of drinks and good times. I wouldn’t quite compare it with the playoffs weekend but it certainly has it’s place in the calender and has absolutely reached the level of being a tradition. Unfortunately the Capitals have never really been competitive enough for the annual pre-Christmas double header in Edinburgh to become a full fledged rivalry, but ever since the Giants inception in 2000 there has been the late November/December trip to Scotland for some hockey, shopping and drinks.
