The Giants new team will get their new season underway at home on Saturday 6th September against the Cardiff Devils. That was announced today when the fixture lists for 08-09 were released. Following the Devils game the Giants will go onto the road for a game in Edinburgh the following night in the Challenge Cup. The first month of the season for the Giants will consist of back-to-back Saturday/Sunday games at home and away. MORE »

The Elite league today confirmed the dates for the 2007 playoff final four weekend.  It’ll take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 7th and 8th.  It’ll feature the same format as previous years and again take place in Nottingham.

Nottingham is without doubt the best venue for such a weekend and is always the best weekend of hockey in the year as fans from all teams travel to watch the final weekend of hockey in the season.  It always carries with it a party like atmosphere and everyone is in high spirits whether they win, lose or their team isn’t featuring.

The extra bonus is that this years playoff weekend ties in with the Easter weekend meaning those of you who usually book a days leave on the Monday shouldn’t have to and should have an extra few days to recover!

As you may remember when purchasing your season ticket for 24 home games that with the inclusion of Hull and there being a home challenge cup game, four extra games would be made available to buy.  Well yesterday the Giants organisation announced what them four games are.  The 14th October vs Hull, 27th October vs Manchester, 2nd December vs Sheffield and the 10th February vs Newcastle.  Upgrades are available until Friday 6th October.

Now is it just me or does something not seem right at all about this or am I the only one thinking the Giants organisation has pulled a fast one on its loyal fans? …

It will be interesting to see how the opening month pans out with so many back to back games through each weekend.

After sitting out of the challenge cup last season, for the first time in history, due to fixture congestion, the Giants will be back in the tournament this season it seems.  According to the Elite League the tournament takes a very odd shape this season seeing the 10 teams playing across 4 different groups.  Yes it doesn’t make much sense to me either but here’s how it looks…

Today the EIHL released initial fixtures for the new season, giving the Giants first 7 home games.  As reported late last week, the fixtures where due for release on Monday past, however another delay has seen them set back until next week.

Just a reminder to anyone unsure, the EIHL will be announcing the fixture list for the coming season on Monday 14th August.  Opening games are expected to take place on Saturday 9th September.
