Giants heading back to Dundalk

Giants News | Wednesday 24 December 2008 by

Due to the unusual success of the Giants in the cup competitions this year they have a crowding of fixtures that means both the Knockout Cup and Challenge Cup Semi-Final home legs against Coventry will be played in Dundalk. I would assume renting the Odyssey ice was not possible and or too expensive for a mid-week game. How many fans travel down to Dundalk midweek though remains to be seen.

The Giants are playing in the knockout cup this year after pulling out of the competition last season. With there already being a Challenge Cup, League schedule and Playoff tournament, I am still not sure the actual point of the Knockout cup.

Giants turn friendly games into glorified training sessions

Giants News | Monday 1 September 2008 by

Well it was two tight games this weekend for the Giants but in the end they edged out the select team of the Hawks and Bulls 10-0 on Saturday and 9-1 on Sunday. Everyone was chipping in with goals and assists as the Hawks/Bulls goalie topped up the tan on the back of his neck every time the Red light came on. At the other end Stevie Lyle and Nathan Craze took turns between the pipes and spent more time eyeing up the woman in the stands than saving shots.  Still it was an exercise that allowed Steve Thornton the chance to see his players in a game situation, were hits could be thrown and penalties taken. It allowed him to try out line combinations ahead of the real action this coming weekend when the season gets underway.

Todd Responds

Giants News | Saturday 8 March 2008 by

Once again Todd goes out of his way to respond to our worries and fears about Dundalk and the playoffs. Cant say I’m not still angry about it but I guess my anger has turned more to the Elite League and even more so the Odyssey Arena but I’ll rant on that a little later.

Is this the straw that breaks the camels back?

Stories 2003-2010 | Friday 7 March 2008 by

Let’s just go straight for the bone on this one. The Giants are playing their one and only (that’s a rant for another day) ‘home’ playoff game ‘away’ in Dundalk. Is this thanks to the Elite League or is this a mess up in scheduling by the Belfast Giants? Who cares? Either way the loyal fans of the Belfast Giants are being expected to travel 60-miles across the border to watch what in hockey is supposed to be the most important game of their season.

Yep, the Giants won’t be holding that big playoff game in a packed Odyssey but in the 1,500 seated Dundalk Ice Dome. The Giants have already played four regular season games in Dundalk this season and will now also play the final home game and their big playoff qualifier in Dundalk. Read More»

Dundalk to the Elite League?

EIHL | Thursday 7 February 2008 by

There have been rumors doing the rounds this past week that Dundalk may be ready to enter a team into the EIHL next season as the league looks to expand. It may answer why the league was looking to up the number of imports, if they are expecting more teams to join the league.

The Giants have played four games out of Dundalk already this season as the home team and the Giants fans have taken over the arena, selling it out on their last trip and making a serious amount of noise. With that, it poses the question, could Dundalk create it’s own set of fans to do the same? Read More»
