Season Preview: Coventry Blaze

August 31st, 2007 by Ricky

This summer may already feel like winter but it’s not quite hockey time yet.  However, with the season only a few weeks one week away and without knowing how much blogging time I will have I guess it’s about time to look into the season and preview each of the teams with as much knowledge as I actually have of them anyway!  Next up it’s the Chavs Blaze: MORE »

Giants to open pre-season tonight against Huddinge

August 31st, 2007 by Ricky

The Giants new look team will finally be put to the test tonight as they take to the ice against Huddinge.  It’s the first pre-season game the Giants have played since the old ice-cup games back in 2002.  I must admit I know very little about this Huddinge team other than that they play in the Swedish second tier of hockey.  If it’s anyway close to the top tear then this will be an excellent test for the Giants team ahead of the new season next week.  The Giants are going to be a little short benched for the contest as George Awada and Troy Neumeier are expected to miss the weekend’s games.  MORE »

Sky will indeed cover the EIHL

August 31st, 2007 by Ricky

It has today been confirmed that Sky will indeed screen British Hockey.  I mentioned a few days ago about the rumour they would cover the Nottingham, Sheffield game on September 13th and indeed that will go ahead on a show from 5pm until 7.30pm.  The most interesting point to read however was the wording, “The first programme”, meaning that this looks like it could be the first of many games covered by Sky Sports.  Here’s hoping.

Giants unveil new jerseys

August 29th, 2007 by Ricky

The Giants have unveiled their new jersey’s for the upcoming season on their home website. The home jersey is a throw back to the original one from 2000-2001 and will defiantely go down well with fans.  The away one keeps the teal look which the Giants have used as their road jersey for seven years now.  I must say I really like them.  I haven’t bought a jersey for quite a few years now but I may be tempted by this one.

Hockey on Sky?

August 29th, 2007 by Ricky

Theres some rumours doing the rounds that the Sheffield Steelers, Nottingham Panthers game on Wednesday 12th September will be shown live on Sky Sports.  This would be great for the league if it where the case.  I’ve always wondered for a long time why Sky haven’t looked to give the sport more coverage when you see some of the sports they do show.

Ruff Retires, Replacment Signed

August 7th, 2007 by Ricky

Giants fans were today rocked by the news the teams leader in all-time goals and points, Jason Ruff has called it quits on his career and left the team.  Ruff who signed a one year contract with the Giants back on June 25th handed in his notice to coach Ed Courtenay two weeks ago leaving Courtenay with the tough task of replacing Jason Ruff.  It’s a job nobody would want to do, replacing the Giants greatest ever player but he’s found his man in winger Ryan Smith.  MORE »

An old Giants team?

August 7th, 2007 by Ricky

With the announcement of new signing Troy Neumeier to the Giants there have been plenty of questions asked amongst the Giants fans about the current age of some of the Giants players.  It is certainly nothing against Troy as an individual as he certainly looks to possess the credentials to be a top player in the league but with four players (Roman Gavalier, Jason Ruff, Ed Courtenay and Troy) over the age of 35 some fans have been worried how the old legs will stand up to a full seasons schedule.  Looking into things however, maybe it’s not quite as big a worry as it first looks.  MORE »

Final defensive slot filled

August 7th, 2007 by Ricky

The Giants have filled their finial defensive position ahead of the new season, less than a month away.  Troy Neumeier 36 becomes the latest newbie to the Giants team joining them from Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League in North America.  A veteran of 17 professional seasons Troy has played at all levels of the minor-pro circuit.  He’ll bring a vast level of experience to the Giants line-up that now sports four players over the age of 35.  MORE »
