After retiring from pro-hockey last season after a serious back injury Dave Matsos will return to the game as a coach – of the Sheffield Steelers. After Dave Whistle announced he was quitting the club to take on a coaching role back in Canada before he had even started, the club where quick to appoint Matsos as their replacement.

Ed Courtenay added two more names to his Giants roster with the signings of Curtis Huppe and Jeff Hutchins. Huppe who is going into his 3rd season with the Giants is a proven goal scorer and probably the most prolific finisher in the league. Hutchins played in Coventry last year and will be bring a strong gritty game to the team with the ability to also pick up points.

Rumours are doing the rounds in Belfast that Shane Johnson will not be returning to the team this coming season. Johnny who has been with the Giants since day one away back in 2000 may well have fallen out of favour of Ed who is looking to reshake the defence and give it a new look. Shane Johnson has completed 6 seasons with the Giants to date and is second all time in games played behind Todd Kelman who recently signed on for a 7th season in teal.
