Still undefeated in 2009 with 10 goal game in 30 minutes vs Phoenix
Game Blogs 2008/09 | Sunday 18 January 2009 by Richard BlayneyThat’s the numbers for you. The Giants kept their fine new year form going with yet another victory in a game that looked to be super tight for the first half and then exploded with goals in the final thirty minutes. The Giants had taken the lead through Deniset but quickly fell behind only to tie the game at two in the final minute of the second period again through Deniset. It set up a final period in which the Giants exploded with seven goals, including a hat trick by Deniset and four points by Phillips to seal the two points and in the end destroy the Phoenix.
It certainly would have been an interesting one to whitness. It isn’t often one team just explodes with so many goals late on after such a close match-up. The one thing that really stood out for me when I looked at the scoring wasn’t so much the hat trick by Deniset but indeed the four point effort by Phillips. I don’t know for sure — I haven’t researched it — but I would imagine that maybe baring Tony Hand and Colin Shields the five points by Phillips was the most by a British born player for the Giants. It certainly was the most by a British defenceman.
Undefeated since the new year the victory marked the teams 6th win in-a-row.
Line-up: Lyle, Deniset, Shields, Thornton, Cheverie, Robins, Burgoyne, Awada, MacMillan, Howells, Phillips, Sample, Johnson, Morrison, Craze.
Scratched: Martin, Walton (both injured)
