Two defeats in a row for the first time this year
Game Blogs 2008/09 | Saturday 6 December 2008 by Richard BlayneyThe Giants lost their second game in a row for the first time this season but failed to slip further down the table thanks to the fact they had games in hand and were involved in the only game of the night yesterday evening. Manchester were in town and took the spoils keeping them in fifth place in the standings and still very much close enough to be a threat.
Malcolm MacMillan picked up the man of the match performance in a game that the Giants generally didn’t show up to. MacMillan who has been recovering from a hand injury in the early part of the season has really started to hit form and win the fans over. Manchester clearly came into the Odyssey with a game plan. The Giants have the tag of being an offensively minded run-and-gun team and teams are learning that to get anything from a game in the Odyssey you have to shut them down first and foremost and limit their play. Manchester did this, took their own chances and duly won the contest.
Tonight the Giants head into Sheffield, who currently top the Elite League, looking to snap this mini losing streak. It has been a long time since the Steelers were top of the league at this stage of the year and a real threat for the title but along with Coventry there are making the title chase all the more harder for the Giants. Going for the Giants is the fact they have games in hand on the two teams above them and should they win them they will be right in the mix. Make no mistake, there is a lot of hockey to play but tonight’s game is pretty dam important.
