Giants win two in a row to open season for only the second time
Game Blogs 2008/09 | Sunday 7 September 2008 by Richard BlayneyYes, I mentioned in the article earlier that the Giants by winning tonight could win their opening two games for only the second time in their history. The last time was back in 05-06 and tonight they did indeed make it a second time with an impressive 4-1 victory over an Edinburgh Capitals team that last night beat one of the season favourites and defending playoff champions, Sheffield Steelers. The Capitals who have had to play the opening two games of the season without their number one goalie after his visa didn’t arrive in time will be satisfied to get out of them two games against two top teams with a win and a defeat.
Edinburgh look like a team that might cause a few upsets this season if their first game of the season means anything. Either that or Sheffield are nowhere near the team we were all lead to believe they were in peoples pre-season predictions.
The Giants had to come from behind tonight just as they did last night against Cardiff after trailing through one period. Like last night the Giants also grabbed a short-handed goal showing that the Giants are going to be dangerous this season even on the penalty kill with the speed they posses amongst their forwards.
As for whom the Giants player of the weekend was, that will be a toss up between Martin and Robins. While Martin grabbed a hat trick last night, Robins grabbed a pair of goals to pick up 7 points for the weekend and while it isn’t confirmed at time or writing I would be willing to bet that them numbers puts him a-top of the scoring charts early on.
