Giants get Crazey!
May 23rd, 2008How cheesy is the headline above! I couldn’t help it though and I’m sure every media outlet that runs the story in the next day will have something to that effect. If you are still wondering what it means then let me be the first to tell you that the Giants have signed Welshman Nathan Craze to be their backup goaltender next season. Nathan played on the Giants team a few seasons back and helped lead them to a league championship alongside Theo Fleury and current Giants for the upcoming season, Shane Johnson, Colin Shields, Mark Morrison and Graeme Walton.
Playing along side fellow Welshman and starter Stevie Lyle the Giants will have one of the strongest one/two punches in goal in the Elite League. It’ll be the first time the Giants have had two players from Wales before. Craze, who replaces Adam Cree as the teams full-time backup goalie will likely see a lot more icetime than Cree did and it should help soften the burden on the starting goaltender which in Elite League hockey tends to be pretty high.
You wont find too many Giants fans upset at this kind of a signing for a backup goalie. Superb move and one that might leaving the only Welsh team in the league, Cardiff wondering how they have missed out on their two finest goalies.
