Rotherham Steelers
March 7th, 2008It appears the Steelers are moving into their own little ice pad, 7-miles up the road in Rotherham that is.
The Steelers plan to be a core tenant of the new £350 million YES project at Rother Valley Country Park after signing a memorandum of understanding with developers Oak Holdings.
Steelers owner Bob Phillips confirmed the new partnership this morning saying “this is a great deal for us, but more importantly it is a great deal for our fans, for our sponsors and for our long term stability
”Operating our own 5000 seat arena with twin training pad will be hugely beneficial for us, we are pointing the way to the future for UK Ice Hockey. Not only will we have our own home on a long term basis we will have the ability to create and run our own junior development programme ensuring local youngsters fill our roster in the future”

You can see the sence in this and you can see why people will be for and against it. It’ll raise debate but in the longrun its probably the right thing and something the Giants wouldn’t be silly doing either someday - in Belfast. There would be plenty of room for plenty of banter over this however if it wasn’t for an even bigger joke on us . . . You probably know the news by now but I’ll talk about it in depth a little later.
P.S. Dont panic, we’re not moving out of the Odyssey for Dundalk - Not quite - Not yet.
