No reason to lose heart yet
February 6th, 2008The Giant hopes of a league title this year may not be over after last weekends events but there’s still a lot to be positive about. The Sunday night defeat to Manchester that also seen Coventry winning was the real killer blow, especially when Coventry had been trailing 2-0 for part of the game. To be honest though I was nearly glad Coventry took the win. Had they lost as well as ourselves I would have been absolutely gutted that we didn’t take advantage of the slip-up. As it turns out even if we had won in Manchester the gap still would have been to much to have realistically made up.
This way the Giants can now get back on track after two defeats and start really preparing for the playoffs. A stiff title chase right to the wire would have been fun but it might have burnt some players out before the playoffs even began. Yes, it was excellent that the Coventry game last week meant something more than just a game of pride, but now that it’s done the Giants can really focus on the last trophy of the season - the playoffs.
This is going to have many people disagreeing with it, no doubt, but it’s been the most up and down season I’ve ever witnessed as a Giants fan (and I’ve witnessed them all) and it’s been one hell of a ride watching the boys turn round what appeared like a lost cause only a few months ago. If they cap it off with a playoff championship then it’ll definitely go down as one of the most memorable seasons we’ve had as Giants fans.
