True to form the Giants have a successful Christmas
December 31st, 2007It’s been ten days since my last post and back then I previewed the Giants Christmas games talking about how their form has been over the Christmas period in years gone by. True to form the Giants have been successful winning five of five so far over the Christmas period with one more game to go on the 5th against Nottingham. It means it’ll be another winning Christmas for the Giants who in their five wins so far have turned over Coventry, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Cardiff twice. It’s moved the Giants up into the top half of the table going into the second half of the season.
The real star of the past four games has been player-coach Ed Courtenay who has picked up 4 goals and 11 assists over this five period to rise to second in the scoring charts. At the tender age of 39 Courtenay continues to show why he is still the best player in the league and leads the way for the many younger players below him throughout the league. More on that in a separate post another time though.
Christmas Hangover
The Christmas period is known for lots of food and plenty of beers and it’s common for some players to indulge also meaning the games back from Christmas see them carry a bit of a hangover onto the ice. That was certainly the case for some teams on Sunday when some very odd scores were thrown up. Some went true to form but the number of goals scored maybe suggest it was the goalies who did most of the partying. The Giants put 5 past Cardiff, Coventry beat Sheffield 7-1 while Edinburgh also put 7 into the net against Newcastle who replied with 3 of their own. Nottingham also got on the score sheet with 5 goals against Hull’s 2.
Troy goes to Hull
Reports are suggesting ex-Giants player from this season Troy Neumeier is off to finish the season with the Hull Stingrays after playing a handful of games as an injury filler for Coventry. I liked Troy, I thought he came on a lot as the season progressed and was unfortunate to get cut but I’m glad he’s found employment elsewhere.
