Judgement Day for Courtenay
December 7th, 2007There were times earlier this year we were happy with Courtenay making any changes to improve the team and given the chances we all would have liked his job to make the changes as people debated and generally agreed for once on the message forums on who had to go.
But now Ed is in a position that nobody is envious of. He must pick a player to cut from a side that has been winning.
The Giants finally, and for the first time this season, have a full compliment of players meaning 11 imports when the Elite League rules stipulate only 10 are allowed. Someone will be leaving today before the team make their trip to Edinburgh for this weekend’s double header.
Today we all see for once the other side of coaching, the tough side. The side were friendships have to be put to the side on a decision that is for the good of the team.
The real heartbreaker of it all is that someone will be losing their job just two and a half weeks shy of Christmas. I just hope the Giants handle this player’s departure with a touch more class than they have been known for with some other popular Giants players over the years. Ie. E-mail is out.
I don’t even want to guess for one minute at who it could be but there are a number of factors Ed will look at in making his decision.
1. Salary - What player is the best performer per pound and good for financial reasons to keep around?
2. Injuries - Is there anyone carrying an injury that could be prone to get hurt again?
3. Tactically - You don’t want to cut someone leaving you short in a specific position. Ed will have to look at where we have depth and go from there.
It’s over to you Ed . . .
