The healing continues as Smith leaves for Germany

October 18th, 2007

Trust the week that I’m away for the Giants to have their most news-active week of the season. Latest rumours/news suggest that struggling Giants forward Ryan Smith has left the team for the lower-German leagues were he originally came from.

Ryan who had inflated points numbers thanks to playing the majority of the season on a line with Ed Courtenay and Scott Cameron, struggled from the start in Belfast. Brought it to replace Jason Ruff who retired in the off-season the pressure was on from the start but his lack of skill, scoring touch and grit in the corners never won him over to the Belfast crowd. There was sparks of good play on a handful of occasions but these were way to few and far between over the course of what has been a disasterous season.

Last week if you had asked me which two players I would change first and foremost in a bid to turn the season around I would have said Smith and DeRouville. This week the Giants have got rid of both these guys and replaced them with what we hope is better quality.

Giants play tonight against Basingstoke at home with a 7.30p.m. faceoff.
