From the EIHL to the NHL and back again
October 2nd, 2007I haven’t blogged in a while, I guess there has been little inspiration to do so considering how the team has been playing but if truth be told the real reason has been the trip over to London sample a different type of hockey - NHL hockey.
Below is a little taster of what we got in terms of the physical side of the game.
The Giants had been on a 6 game losing streak and were rooted to the foot of the Elite League table upon leaving for the trip the morning after the Giants went down 4-3 to Nottingham in a game that promised so much in terms of physical play but delivered so little. We had one fight between Lewis and Shmyr with the later very reluctant to fight thoughout the bout.
Heading to London for the opening two games of the new regular season we were a little more hopeful of some fast paced slick hockey with even a bout or two of fisty cuffs.
We got all of that and more over the two games with LA winning the first contest 4-1 and Anaheim winning the following night by the same score. As seen by the video further up the post we also got a good scrap between George Parros and Scott Thornton. Any chance of signing that guy Parros to add more toughess to out line-up in Belfast?
So with the weekend barely over it’s back to EIHL hockey and back to the Odyssey tonight for my forth game in five days. The Giants did manage a win in Edinburgh on Sunday night with DeRouville taking a small step to getting some confidence back with his first shutout of the season. The game also involved a couple of fights with Mo and Moran dropping the gloves for the Giants.
Tonight it’s another struggling team, the Cardiff Devils, a team however that did manage to beat us 7-1 earlier in the season. Hopefully with one player, still unknown to us all, to be cut from the lineup in the coming weeks, the fear of players playing for their jobs will help us through and give us our best winning streak of the season so far - two games.
