Finally the waiting is over

September 8th, 2007

It’s been a long summer, the weather has been pathetic and the Giants have made a smooth transition from one season to the next.  For the first time possibly ever there was no talk of teams coming in or dropping out of the league, no problem with trying to hire a coach or sign players in time for the season and so very little at times to talk about.  But it’s a good thing and plenty of new sponsors have came on boad along with seven new players to the Giants team.  Tonight the off season officially ends and the 8th season of Giants hockey gets underway.

Edinburgh are the opponents and just a few days ago during my still to be completed season preview of each team I covered them and how I thought they would do this season.  I predicted a 7th place finish but the Capitals are a much changed team from what we’re used to seeing of them and so that prediciton could be completely blown out of the water.  For that reason the Giants will have to take them seriously tonight.  The Caps have bulked up and got more physical and will not be pushed around.  That’ll suit me just rightly if it’s a good physical game tonight to get the season underway so long as the Giants come out of it with the two points.

The Giants will take to the ice for the first time tonight without Todd Kelman as one of it’s players.  Although quite a few guys have came back for another season it in some ways feels like a fresh start, a new era and a big change for the team.  With Kelman now as GM - a hockey man at the top, you can be sure Giants hockey this season is going to be fun to watch.

Everyone is fit and healthy, everyone is eager to get going and finally the season is here again.
