Season Preview: Edinburgh Capitals

September 3rd, 2007

This summer may already feel like winter but it’s not quite hockey time yet.  However, with the season only a few weeks one week away and without knowing how much blogging time I will have I guess it’s about time to look into the season and preview each of the teams with as much knowledge as I actually have of them anyway!  Next up it’s the Caps:

THE VIEW

What to expect:
The Capitals had a good time of it against the Giants last season.  Baring two defeats in the double header in November and another defeat later in the season they frustrated the Giants with two wins in regulation and another in a shootout.  Against everyone else however they failed to play as well and for the second year running finished bottom of the Elite League.  This season however the appear to have toughened up and will not be the push over people come to expect.  Making the playoff qualifiers will be the ultimate goal for the team and with improvements throughout the roster there’s no reason why this goal cannot this year be achieved.

Key Player:
Doug Christiansen: Giants fans will remember this guy if they were in the Bunkers bar at the playoffs.  He was in there with Jeff Hutchins.  A few months later he signed on with the Capitals instantly bringing them enormous size.  At 245lbs the man is clearly no pushover and has also proven he can rack up the points.  He’s scored at all levels he’s played at throughout the North American minor leagues and there’s no reason that wont change here in the EIHL where he will also get the chance to express his physical side, something Edinburgh have never shown.

Odds for the Gambler:
10 to 1: To win as many as they lose against the Giants this year
25 to 1: To make the final four weekend.
10,000 to 1: To pull in more support than the Giants at their home double header.

If they were and NHL team they would be the:
Washington Capitals - Emm.. Because of the names?  That or that both are usually down the bottom of the standings.

A Prediction that means nothing: 7th
