Final two import sports filled
August 22nd, 2006I certainly couldn’t be much happier with the two final import slots that Ed has filled today. Returning for a second season is Shawn Skiehar who added the physical as well as defensive aspect to the Giants forward lines last year and joining him is an ex-team mate of his and a new player to the Giants line-up, defenseman, J.P. Morin.
At 26, Jean-Phillipe is a hard hitting no nonsense defenseman who stands at 6′2 and 205lbs. He joins the Giants from the Flint Generals of the UHL where he spent three seasons. Although a good bit smaller than Jason Bowen he certainly looks to be the replacement for the big man who retired from the game this off-season. I don’t know much about Morin but he seems to have a good reputation and was an ex draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers. He’ll certainly add much needed Steel to the Giants defence and will certainly keep the opposition forwards honest.
These two signings complete the Giants import spots for the year bringing the roster total to 13 players. With local trials coming up soon it’s likely that Morrison and Walton will re-sign for the team and maybe followed by one or two other local guys who could be brought in to gain experience and learn the Elite league ropes.
Still for now I can’t imagine there is a single Giants fan out there who is not happy with how this line-up is looking. It’s big, strong and powerful, can score goals, can defend well and also carries good speed. It should be exciting.
