Whistle leaves the Giants

March 29th, 2003

It was the day Giants fans hoped they would never meet, the final home game of the season and Dave Whistle’s announcement to a capacity crowd at the Odyssey that at the end of the season he would be moving on for another Challenge. It’s a Challenge that will come in Germany’s DEL with the Iserlohn Roosters.
Whistle was called onto the ice and he made his announcement and with tears in his eyes and a croaky voice he talked of his great memories here and how it was a tough decision to make. The crowd cheered Whistle and chanted his name clearly understanding the mans tough decision.

The news wasn’t all bad however as he told the crowd he knew who the next coach would be and that he would do a great job, he then introduced the Giants’ new coach for next season, Rob Stewart.

The crowd went wild at this clearly showing their support for Stewart. Rob Stewart will now retire as a player at the end of the season baring an injury he will have competed in every single super league game in its history before it changes to a new name and set up next season.

We wish you all the best Dave Whistle for all the success and great memories you have gave us and we also wish you all the success and backing Rob Stewart as we know you’ll do a great job for us.

Roll on the Playoff finals and then season 2003-2004.
