So there comes to end another Giants season and although the fight at the end was a good one, it’s been a trophiless one.  Still it didn’t dampen the Giants fans mood in Nottingham as yet again they made noise all weekend long and surely cannot have fell to short of drinking the place dry!  When you stand back and look at it all from a far of course you think of the bad spot in mid-season that cost us the title, but in reality a second place finish in the league and a semi-final shootout loss to the eventual winners isn’t what you would class a bad season and should be taken a positive to build upon for next year.

Of course it was a disapointing way to end a season and as the Panthers scored that final penalty shot you couldn’t hide the disapointment from their faces but you cant win every year and at least this season the Giants went down with a strong effort on the ice.  The offensive guys went missing but that was thanks to the defensive checking game both teams played rather than their inability to play on the big occasion.  The Giants defense was outstanding and Phillippe DeRouville between the pipes was especially excellent.  At times he was the reason we even made it to a shoot-out.

Dutes and Hutchins missed their penalty shots and while people can argue about the choices all night long and why guys like Awada and Ruff wern’t selected, in reality it’s hard to look past a guy like Hutchins in such a moment after leading the team in goals and points this season.

As everyone gets home and looks forward to such a long off-season full of the usual rumours of players and teams coming and going, September will finally roll around and this will all be in the memory bank and we’ll be discussing the new season and pinning our new hopes on trophies and the only thing we’ll talk about of this past weekend was the goodtimes, the chants, the bars and the beers.
