Shane Johnson signs for Slough Jets

August 7th, 2006

As rumoured a few weeks ago Shane Johnson will not return to the Giants as he moves to the EPL (English Premier League) to play his hockey for the Slough Jets.  It’s a big step down for a terrific player but it’s clear he was not in Ed Courtenay’s plans for the upcoming season.  Still a huge “thanks for the good times” shout must go out to Shane who played for 6 great seasons in Belfast playing 332 games, second only to Todd Kelman.

The Slough Jets are delighted to announce that they have secured the services of defenceman, Shane Johnson for the forthcoming season.

The 32-year old, originally from Brandon, Manitoba in Canada, has spent the past six seasons with the Belfast Giants and prior to that he spent one season with the London Knights.

On the signing, Jets Head Coach Steve Moria comments, “Shane is a very important signing for the Jets. Having played for Belfast in both the Superleague and Elite leagues in this country, we are extremely happy to sign a player of this calibre. He will spearhead our defence and will undoubtedly become a big success at the Hangar.”

Jets General Manager and Assistant Coach, Warren Rost comments, “Shane’s pedigree is outstanding having played at Boston University and then eight seasons in the Super league. He has undoubted talent but most importantly he is a winner and having him in the dressing room will help the team take the final step towards bringing Silverwear to Slough. With the new rule interpretations and the undoubted rushing ability of our defense the Jets will be an awesome team to watch next season.”

On signing for the Jets, Shane comments, “I’m very happy with my decision to play for the Jets. I felt that after speaking to Steve about the team’s direction, it would be an excellent place to go. I’m excited about the upcoming season and am looking forward to putting on a Slough Jets jersey.”
