Giants find their old form

Giants 3, Stingrays 2

That’s more like it.  The third period of Saturday night’s game reminded us all what the Giants are capable of.  Pucks where getting fired hard into the Stingrays zone and players where chasing them down more often than not getting to them first.  It may have been a come from behind win but it was one the Giants deserved.

Confidence is an amazing thing in sports and it was shown when the Giants finally got a goal.  Having gone through the first period looking decidedly ordinary yet throwing everything they could at the Stingrays only to find everything staying out of the goal, they finally broke through in the second and looked a completely different team.  The end of the first had fans shaking their heads wondering what had happened to their goal scorers but two goals from Hutchins to draw the teams level changed everything.  When Ed put the line of Huppe - Hutchins - Awada together early in the second period the Giants took off.  Ed Courtenay has been mixing and matching the lines a lot lately trying to find the right chemistry and he certainly found it with them three.

In defence, J.P Morin and Roman Gavalier had superb games while Belfast boys Graeme Walton and Mark Morrison got on the score sheet with assists on the game winner by Mark Dutiaume.

The Stingrays started the game with their backup Chamberlin in goals and certainly done well for himself, not for one minute looking out of place at this level of hockey.  In the first period the poor side of the Giants made Chamberlin look like an import goalie.  He turned aside 31 shots in the contest in comparison to Mike Minards 23 saves from 25 shots against.
