Shootout woes for Giants
December 14th, 2006Devils 3, Giants 2 (ASO)
Penalty shots may well feature in practice this morning after the Giants went down to the Cardiff Devils in their new rink in penalty shots. The game was tied 2-2 after regulation and overtime before heading to the shootout. George Awada, Jason Ruff and J.P. Morin all missed sending it into sudden death, when Awada and Ruff missed for a second time Cardiff finally got a goal to take the win and the extra point. The Giants will be content enough with the single road point but must get back to winning ways this weekend against Edinburgh.
Jason Ruff and Mark Dutiaume had given the Giants the lead with powerplay goals but Cardiff fought their way back to tie it up and force OT. Mike Minard was again in fine form between the pipes turning aside 35 shots.
Coventry remain eight points behind the Giants but have five games in hand. The two teams tied a series of games last weekend with both winning their respective home games.
