Ski vs Voth

October 13th, 2006

Shawn Skiehar’s second tilt of the year and his second in three games…

GAME: Belfast Giants vs Cardiff Devils
DATE: 12-October-2006
PLACE: Odyssey Arena
RESULT: 2-3 Cardiff after pens
TIME: 1:02 of the 2nd period

Voth has been running the show all night, throwing some dirty hits and scoring the only Cardiff goal of the game.  Early in the second the Giants have just taken the lead on a powerplay marker when Ski lines up beside Voth for the ensuing faceoff with both doing lots of talking…

Puck drops and Voth skates away but Ski follows him pleading with him to go.  Voth turns round near the Giants tunnel entrance and drops his mitts.  They both trade bombs early on against the boards with the right hands but Voth has a huge height advantage - he’s punching straight, Ski is punching upwards.  Ski loses his lid allowing Voth who still has his on including the visor a big advantage.  Ski ties up Voth’s punching arm neutralising the fight.  Both guys talk a little while bear hugging until the linesmen come in.  It was unlikely they could have kept up them rapid fire punches for long but without his lid Ski had little choice but to grab hold of Voth.  Ski goes to the box with a minor cut to the head and Voth ices the knuckles.

OUTCOME: DRAW (slight edge Voth)

The rest of the game is reasonably clean now, the fight has settled the game down and Ski has done his job, the Giants players are now throwing the bodies around more.
